Webmaster Freebies

Attention all webmasters!

Whether you run a small personal homepage on the free hosting provided by your ISP from your bedroom, or a sophisticated and slick megasite on professional paid hosting there are free tools out there to help you.

Many of these such as the free guestbooks, polls, forums etc. that you can add to your site available from a number of different providers. The reason these are free is that often they are supported by advertising which you are forced to place on the pages your freebie script is on.

However if you look around away from the more popular sites you will notice that there are sites out their which offer these services for free and without the unwanted advertisements.

Better still, if you have a professional host which allocates you MySQL databases, and allows php & cgi files to be uploaded, you can run numerous free scripts yourself - directly on your site.

The most popular provider of free webmaster tools appears to be Bravenet, however I warn you now - they will push you to upgrade all your services at ridiculous prices and fill any free services (& the site whilst you are choosing and customising your tools) with flashing banner ads, text ads, popups, popunders, floating ads - basically everything that will irritate you. But hey, it's free.

Huge Monthly Incomes

I'm sure you've all seen the small ads in the papers claiming that you can earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month by working from home.

There are also similar contextual targeted ads around the internet, particularly on wide-spread affiliate networks such as Google AdSense.

So are these 'work at home' or 'home based businesses' opportunities genuine, or are they nothing more than an over-hyped 'get rich quick' ploy for a few marketers at the top of the chain?

These income programs or money-making systems often claim to be 'risk free', and may also claim to reveal secret methods to generate a guaranteed income.

The first thing to do when you come across such an 'opportunity' is to think it through. If profit was guaranteed why would anyone charge you to find out about it, indeed - if it was working for them WHY would they want to share it?

The simple answer to this is that these opportunities are often nothing more than eBook scams, similar to pyramid or ponzi schemes, were the money you pay for materials goes to the people at the top - leaving the people at the bottom out of pocket.

Never pay money for details on a job - would you do this in the normal world? No.
Never pay unless you know what you are buying.
Think - Is the opportunity too good to be true - in most cases the answer to this will be yes.

Google AdSense for Webmasters

Google AdSense is a program for web publishers, or indeed anyone who owns a webpage, to earn an income from the traffic you have on their site.

AdSense is a pay-per-click network, meaning publishers earn only when the contextual advertisements on their pages are clicked by visitors to the site. Each time a click is made on an advert a small cash amount is added to the publishers account.

AdSense advertisements are shown on lots of sites around the net, including on the websites of many big-name multinationals.

These ads are distinguishable by the text 'Ads by Goooooogle' (yes 6 "o"'s appearing next to the text advertisements.

There are several different ad formats or layouts, enabling publishers to fit the ads around their existing comment. The 'theme' or colour scheme for the ad units is also customisable to ensure the ads fit in alongside the existing page design.

What is Phishing

Phishing is currently one of the greatest threats to face you and your family. Without your knowledge your identity can be cloned, you can loose control of your accounts at sites such as eBay & PayPal which can damage your online reputation and even lead to financial loss.

If you are still unaware of what Phishing is, listen up!

Phishing attacks arrive in your e-mail inbox. They are email messages which appear to be from your bank, or another reputable online site that stores your information. These messages claim that there is an error in the banks system, or even claim to be doing a security check and ask you to verify your identity.

When you click on a link in the phishing email, instead of being sent to the real site (where you account is most probably fine), you are taken to a 'clone' of the page set up by the Phisher. When you enter you details on this page, they go straight into the hands of someone on the other side of the world who will attempt to steal your identity and the contents of your accounts.
All this can happen without your knowledge, whilst you are sleeping a scammer could be using your eBay account and positive feedback score to post none-existent items for sale - and then running with the money paid once the auction is closed.

You will then be left with the undesirable task of patching over your now damaged online reputation, and attempting to restore your account status.

What is eGold?

eGold, or to give its proper name e-Gold is an online payment transfer site in a similar manner to PayPal. However, instead of being backed by currency, eGold is backed by solid gold reserves.

eGold is popular with many online autosurfs and HYIP or other investment programs online, due to its leinient terms. Unlike PayPal there is no risk of chargebacks being committed - however there is also no buyer protection - which is why eGold is very rarely, if at all, used for physical offline goods.

An eGold account is free to setup, just visit the website at https://e-gold.com
Unlike PayPal and other online payment transfer services, eGold cannot be funded by bank transfer or credit card directly through the site. Instead you must used a third-party service to exchange offline funds or funds in other e-currencies for eGold. The same is true for withdrawals - money cannot be withdrawn from the eGold website by wire transfer or check - again a 3rd party exchange service must be used.

Unlike PayPal and many other online payment transfer services, eGold can be used internationally with no restrictions on its use.

This makes it a very popular choice for people outside of Western Europe and North America.

Why mesothelioma starts the tills ringing

Mesothelioma is a rare form of lung cancer, which is caused by exposure to asbestos - so why is this such a big money word?

A quick search on Google of just the sites using AdWords to promote mesothelioma sites shows you were this topic is going. There are over
1,000 sites that have paid to get a listing on a Google search for the word. This instantly shows you that competition for these ads are high - and this drives up the price the advertisers pay per click.

It is frequently reported on sites around the web, that Mesothelioma is a very high paying keyword. This means that publishers who have a website with asbestos or mesothelioma related content, can expect a high revenue for for each click on a pay-per-click advertisement on their site.

But why is there so much competition for what is, after all, a killer? A quick glance at the ads on Google should tell you. The majority of the ads are for lawyers, solicitors or attorneys - call them what you will.

These Solicitors often charge a hefty commission on any compensation they can get for the sufferer, when someone has been held responsible for them becoming infected.

For severe asbestosis payouts can reach the £200,000 mark (figure taken from site advertising on Google).

The potential earnings for solicitors for each case they take on is large, so they can afford to make high bids on keywords to get as many new clients as possible.

Mesothelioma can lead to premature death, but for some the first mention of the word starts the tills ringing.

Spam Still Rife

Despite new anti-spam laws introduced in Europe and North America over the past few years, spam continues to be as prevalent as ever.

It is simply too easy for someone to set up a spam server and simple send off thousands upon thousands of e-mail messages a minute.

It is not just our email inboxes which are being clogged up by this unwanted junk. Blogs and message boards are also full of the stuff.

The reason I ditched nucleus as my blogging software on a site of mine was due to blog spamming. The software simply allowed anyone to come along and post freely on any post in the blog - around 95% of all comments were spam - containing links to pay-per-click search engines and websites of which the content was unsuitable for my readers.

A forum at one of my affiliate sites has also frequently been targeted over the last couple of weeks - my guess is once you are on the spammers list they will return again and again.

Needless to say all the spam posts were deleted - but people are still doing this in the hope that they will get the click or an increased ranking in the search engines.

How did I combat this? Simple, I made registration compulsory to anyone who wants to post - something which many forums have. However even this will not stop the deter mind spammer.

High Yield Investment Programs (part two)

Part 2 - Online HYIPs

Online HYIP programs should be avoided like the plague. Like the plague they spread quickly, and will take anyone who is foolish enough to use them.

Due to money laundering and fraud prevention laws in most of Western Europe and the United States, most HYIP programs are located in countries such as China, by their anonymous owners.

Often these 'online investment opportunities' have just one person running them - an indication of the unprofessionalism of the online dubious HYIP industry.

Would you give your money to an anonymous person in a deregulated country hiding behind a mask which is the Internet? You wouldn't. However, the sad fact is that millions of dollars are being invested at these 'get rich quick' style HYIP websites.

High Yield Investment Programs (part one)

The phrase High Yield Investment Programs (HYIPs) can refer to two contrasting investment opportunities.

Part 1

The first are legal investment funds or unit trusts - here the money is managed by a team of professionals, who are investment experts. These fund managers try to maximize investors potential gains as quickly as possible, by rapid buying and selling of shares or stock, and investing in emerging markets. This of course is not without its risks.

The minimum deposits in these 'offline' companies is normally a couple of thousand dollars. It is not uncommon for gains to be around the 10-15% mark a year, however be warned - as the potential rewards are high, so are the risks - you can loose as well as win.
