Dual Core

There has been a lot of talk of so called 'Dual Core' processors recently - but what is all this fuss about?

A dual-core processor is two entirely independent processors (+ caches & cache controllers) which are built onto a single silicon chip.

Dual Core technology which has recently been pushed by Intel enables you to 'do more' at the same time with your computer.

However to take advantage of the full benefits of dual core technology you need software which is designed to utilize this new type of processor. Currently software that supports dual-core technology is limited, however Windows Vista (the predecessor to Windows XP SP2) will be able to utilize dual core processors.
